MGC expresses concern over low RG tool uptake

Massachusetts Gaming Commission (MCG) Chair Catherine Judd-Stein has expressed her concern that there is a low take up of responsible gambling tools from consumers in the state.

Judd-Stein raised these concerns as operators reported their Q3 report to the commission, updating the regulator on its revenue and approach to other initiatives such as DEI, RG and lottery engagement.

When DraftKings reported that fewer than 0.1% of users were using time limits, 2.3% used deposit limits, 0.13% used spending limits and 0.4% used wager limits, the regulatory Chairwoman was not happy and requested the operator work to improve those figures.

Judd-Stein pleaded: “Our Director of Research of Responsible Gaming has been concerned that the patrons just are not utilizing them.

“I really thank you for this slide because it speaks to that. Right. We can all think, collectively, as we move forward, how can we get our consumers in Massachusetts to really take advantage of these tools, and the only ..

MyStride Positive Play: using gamification to enhance player protection

When thinking about player protection, orthodoxical thinking may err towards preventing players from using gaming platforms. After all, therein the game lies potential dangers for the player.

But Dr. Mary Donohue, CEO of the Digital Wellness Center, has other ideas. She has developed a new platform titled MyStride Positive Play, a gamification tool to help rebalance the dopamine levels in players’ brains to prevent risky betting patterns.

The tool, to be integrated into betting and casino apps, interrupts a player’s gaming activity to provide another game that is not tied to real money, in a bid to rebalance the player’s dopamine levels.

Dr. Donohue, who works out of Toronto, knows all too much about how problem gambling can impact victim’s – and their family’s – lives.

Speaking with SBC Media on the Player Protection Day series of webinars, Donohue outlined how the inspiration for the MyStride Positive Play platform came from a painful experience too close to home.

“I observ..

There are many dynamic duos. Bert and Ernie. Batman and Robin. Sonny and Cher. For US online gambling, you could arguably put Entain SVP American Regulatory Affairs & Responsible Gambling Martin Lycka and Princeton Public Affairs Group’s Bill Pascrell III on the list.

The two joined forces at SBC Summit Barcelona for a live version of The Safe Bet Show. The two longtime colleagues reminisced on their years of work to bring gambling expansion to the US, most notably in New Jersey. They also took a deep dive into Pascrell’s family and its long history in the US political space.

Pascrell’s long history in gaming means he was a major part of the initial passage of online casino legislation in New Jersey. Accordingly, he knew to encourage his clients to engage with lawmakers in front of the ten-year sunset of the provision. As he explained, operators needed to actively push for ten more years but they believed renewal was a slam dunk.
