Spillemyndigheden blocks 83 illegal gambling websites in Denmark

Spillemyndigheden, the Danish gambling authority, has stated it has been successful in blocking 83 illegal gambling websites in Denmark.

Blocking the recent websites in the Næstved court, the authority noted that it is the tenth time it has gone to court to block illegal websites, in which it has blocked 359 illegal websites since the Danish gambling market was partially liberalised in 2012.

With Spillemyndigheden intensifying its efforts to block illegal websites that offer betting and online casinos without permission in Denmark, the 83 sites blocked means 2022’s high of 82 websites has already been surpassed.

“We have intensified our work to shut down the illegal sites so that we now get them blocked twice a year instead of once as previously,” noted Anders Dorph, Director of Spillemyndigheden.

“In this way, we can get hold of even more sites and minimise the period when Danish players are exposed to games that are offered illegally in Denmark.

Spillemyndigheden gets court approval to block 83 illegal operators

A Danish court in Næstved has ruled in favour of the Danish Gambling Authority (Spillemyndigheden) over a decision to block 83 gambling websites blocked in the country.

This marks a total of 10 instances where Spillemyndigheden has gone to court over a similar issue as it ramps up its efforts to root out illegal gambling out of Denmark.

The Danish gambling market was partially opened up in 2012, paving the way for illegal betting and online casino providers into the country. Since then, the Danish Gambling Authority has blocked a total of 359 unlicensed operators.

Detection comes as a result of a stringent monitoring process where Spillemyndigheden uses a combined methodology of automated searches and accepting reports from citizens and businesses.

After an operator has been found to be in breach of local regulations, the Danish gambling watchdog requests them to cease operations. If the activity persists, Spillemyndigheden can then take the case to the district court and ask i..

PGA TOUR forges responsible gambling advertising guardrails with coalition membership

The PGA TOUR has made a significant commitment to sports betting integrity by entering a partnership with the Coalition of Responsible Sports Betting Advertising.

Focusing on ensuring responsible practices within sports betting advertising, the coalition was formed by the NFL and FOX in 2023. Other members include the MLB, NASCAR, NBA, WNBA, NHL, and NBC Sports.

Overall, the coalition and its members aim to limit advertising only to adults of legal betting age and avoid the promotion of excessive gambling.

A joint statement by the organisation said: “As the legalisation of sports betting spreads nationwide, we feel it is critical to establish guardrails around how sports betting should be advertised to consumers across the United States.

“Each member of ..

Sweden’s revised credit card gambling ban proposal receives BOS pushback

Sweden’s Ministry of Finance has put forward proposals for a more comprehensive ban on using a credit card to gamble to enhance player protection.

However, the proposal has received pushback, as the Swedish Trade Association for Online Gambling – Branschföreningen för Onlinespel – has expressed disappointment in the government’s decision since it will hand “another competitive advantage to the unlicensed gambling market”.

According to a statement on the Regeringskansliet’s website, the Ministry of Finance’s memorandum proposes a more comprehensive credit card ban for gambling to “prevent gambling for money from leading to indebtedness” since gambling problems and over-indebtedness are closely connected.

Niklas Wykman, Minister of Financial Markets, stated: “Gambling for money on credit can lead to great financial difficulties. Therefore, we are now stopping that possibility.

“It is not reasonable for gambling companies or gambling agents to contribute to individuals taking such la..

Saturday Night Live spoofs sportsbooks and responsible gambling

Getting the Saturday Night Live treatment is generally an indicator that a person, a business or an industry has fully infiltrated the mainstream.

This past weekend, sportsbooks were the target of a spoof commercial on the program. SNL aired a fake commercial for fictitious operator Rock Bottom Kings, a sportsbook that allows you to wager on the problematic behavior of your peers who may be struggling with a gambling problem.

The ad mimics the look and feel of BetMGM’s spots with Jamie Foxx and the vocal delivery and graphics employed by just about every operator.

More than anything though, the skit sends up the company’s approach to problem gambling, oscillating between humor and the idea you can win from gambling to periodic moments of seemingly insincere concern about addiction.

Gaming industry analyst Steve Ruddock was one who thinks the skit is an indication of how the industry’s RG efforts are landing with the average person.

The skit isn’t going to change hearts and minds..

MPs split on what is intrusive & frictionless on affordability checks debate

The debate on UK gambling adopting mandatory affordability checks on customers has drawn distinct opinions across political ranks.

Yesterday, the debate was brought to Westminster Hall as MPs responded to UK racing’s petition to “abandon financial risk checks as proposed by the White Paper”.

Collecting over 103,000 signatures, UK racing cites that the current proposals favoured by the UK Gambling Commission (UKGC) of introducing ‘light checks’ on player accounts at a net loss of £125 a month or £500 per year are intrusive to recreational customers.

Furthermore, UK Racing states that the Commission’s proposal to introduce financial risk assessments on gambling accounts with losses greater than £1,000 within a rolling 24 hours or £2,000 within 90 days poses a direct threat to the heritage sport’s funding of stakeholders.

Kansspelautoriteit, the Dutch gaming authority, has presented a new supervisory agenda as part of its ‘Safe Gaming’ mission and public objectives to bolster player protection.

Detailed within its 2020-2024 Strategy, the KSA’s supervisory agenda has highlighted four areas of possible additional risk in 2024: duty of care/addiction prevention; combat illegal online offerings; support of partners; and compliance with the provision of data.

Regarding duty of care/addiction prevention, the authority has stated that there will be a “heavy emphasis” in this area to help protect players against risky or problematic gambling, tracking down providers who don’t comply and taking enforcement action when necessary.

Looking at combating illegal online offerings, the KSA noted that it will pay further attention to the entire chain of illegal supply, improving its “data-driven approach to risk-based supervision and increasing the effectiveness of interventions”.

However, regarding illegal offeri..

Compliance with data delivery: providers provide the data necessary for monitoring in a timely, complete and accurate manner.

These have all been p..
