Norsk Tipping fined after mistakenly paying a player NOK 25m

Norsk Tipping has been fined NOK 4.5m (approximately €383,000) by the Norwegian gambling and foundation authority Lotteritilsynet for a payout error which resulted in a player being paid NOK 25m (approximately €2.13m).

Lotteritilsynet stated that back in March, Norsk Tipping paid a player NOK 25m by mistake from its online casino game KongKasino, despite the game only having a maximum prize of NOK 100,000 and a jackpot prize of NOK 5m.

The operator told the authority that it happened due to an unexpected error that was difficult to predict. However, the error had not been discovered until the player who received the money notified Norsk Tipping of the mistake.

The player paid back the prize to Norsk Tipping in line with its customer agreement.

In July, Lotteritilsynet sent a notice of infringement fees to Norsk Tipping, but the comments it has received from the operator haven’t changed its opinion on the matter.

Within its decision, the authority stated that it “understands that N..

DraftKings handed $200,000 civil penalty for posts on CEO’s social media

DraftKings has agreed to pay a $200,000 civil penalty after being charged by the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) for selectively disclosing material, nonpublic information to investors via CEO Jason Robins’ social media accounts.

Within its release, the SEC noted that since the same information wasn’t disclosed to all investors, this violated Regulation Fair Disclosure, so a civil penalty was issued to DraftKings to settle the charges.

In an order dated 26 September, the SEC stated that on 27 July 2023, DraftKings’ public relations firm published a post on Robins’ personal X and LinkedIn accounts.

The X post read: “There’s massive potential for growth in new markets — but we’re still seeing really strong growth in existing states. Our 2018-2019 state vintage grew over 80% on the revenue basis year-over-year in Q1. With those numbers, we expect robust growth even without new states opening.”

A similar statement was also published on the DraftKings CEO’s personal LinkedIn..

Gordon Moody eyes ending of gambling support stigma with First Aid launch

UK residential charity, Gordon Moody has moved to significantly expand the support it provides through the launch of their new Gambling Support First Aid training.

Announced during a press conference at the SBC Summit in Lisbon, the charity emphasised that whilst most people know how to respond to a medical emergency such as a heart attack, few people know how to react if they noticed someone struggling with gambling, or know how to recognise signs of gambling-related harm in a family member or friend.

As a result, the group’s new Gambling Support First Aid training seeks to reduce the fear and uncertainty of addressing gambling issues. It empowers individuals with the skills and knowledge to recognise and respond to signs of gambling-related harms confidently and responsibly.

In a bid to bring the course to as many people as possible, the two-day course (two full days or four half days) can be delivered online or face-to-face and is suitable for anyone aged 18 and over who is looki..

Evolution Georgia workers’ union issues warning to company’s investors

LABOR, a union representing Evolution Georgia workers, has petitioned the Swedish Financial Supervisory Authority, Finansinspektionen, to review the gaming supplier’s public filings.

In a separate letter, the union has warned Evolution’s shareholders that the company’s “adversarial treatment of employees who seek to exercise freedom of association and collective bargaining rights undermines the core feature of its business model”.

The actions of LABOR follow an ongoing situation in Georgia, where over half of the 8,000 Evolution Gaming workers in Tbilisi have been on strike since 12 July, protesting about “low wages, unsanitary working conditions and other unfair labour practices”.

In total, 44 concerns have been raised by workers to the company, including safety and health issues such as “ventilation and temperature control issues and unsanitary work environments”.

Evolution Gaming employee Makhare Patashuri, a worker on strike, stated: “We asked for basic things like having a doc..

Senate urged to tackle social media, youth exposure to betting ads

After more than three months of dormancy, the Canadian Senate debate on gambling advertising picked up again this week with four hours of sessions discussing betting ads.

The Transport and Communications Committee held a pair of meetings on Sept. 24-25 regarding Bill S-269, the National Framework on Advertising for Sports Betting Act.

These were the first hearings on S-269 since June, wherein senators discussed the legislation that would develop a national framework for sports betting advertising, identify measures to regulate ads, and focus on finding ways to prevent and help both minors and problem gamblers from being impacted.

During those June sessions, several senators expressed regret over not considering deeply enough the ramifications of the decision to expand online gaming and betting in 2021. This time around, numerous witnesses from various working backgrounds had their say. A core focus was the complex concern around the role social media plays in disseminating widesprea..
