DGOJ adds SIGMA match-fixing controls to Spanish licence duties

DGOJ, the Directorate of Gambling of Spain, has adopted all resolutions of the SIGMA programme, Spain’s new ‘centralised directive’ to combat match-fixing and uphold the integrity of sports.

Drafted in 2022, the SIGMA programme was launched in Q1 of this year to establish a ‘cooperative network’ to tackle criminal activity and the exposure of Spanish sports to match-fixing.

The headline directive of SIGMA will launch a whistle-blower portal for the public, athletes, and staff working in Spanish sports and gambling to report incidents of manipulation and fraud to authorities.

Further objectives see the programme launch a collaborative network and database for Spanish authorities to review and record incidents and suspicious activities related to sports manipulations.

As announced by DGOJ Director General, Mikel Arana, on Friday 28 June, DGOJ approved the union of gambling operators holding individual licenses for horse racing or sports betting in any of its modalities to SIGMA, to h..

Portugal trade body sues social media influencers over illegal gambling sites

APAJO, Portugal’s Online Gambling Trade Association, has filed ‘criminal complaints’ against social media influencers promoting unlicensed gambling websites.

The trade association has urged Portuguese authorities to intervene in the marketing of illegal online gambling, which targets national consumers and undermines the regulated market’s offering.

Complaints target the social media channels of Portuguese influencers GODMOTA, Bruno Savate, Numeiro, and Cláudia Nayara.

APAJO stated, “In recent days, we have filed criminal complaints against several content producers who promoted illegal gambling through social media to an audience of several million followers. These online gambling operators do not have a licence to operate in Portugal.”

The complaint explained that the four influencers’ media profiles reach a combined audience of 2.8 million followers, likely exposing Portuguese minors to gambling environments on streams uploaded to Twitch, TikTok, and other social media channels…

Kansspelautoriteit increases fines for illegal gambling kiosks

The Dutch gaming authority, Kansspelautoriteit, has increased its fine policy for those offering gambling kiosks illegally.

Updating policy rules that have stood since 2014, basic fines have been raised by the gaming authority from €7,500 to €20,000 per device, to €25,000 to €100,000 per device.

The KSA describes a gambling kiosk as a “device that allows gambling on location” and that they’re sometimes referred to as an “internet kiosk or football kiosk”, adding that the games of chance featured are “almost always illegal”.

According to the gaming authority, slot machines don’t fall under the term gambling kiosk as they require an operating or presence permit. However, they noted that the number of gambling kiosks is increasing and that mobile devices such as laptops and telephones have an increasing share in the devices used.

The KSA added that administrative fines imposed “consist of a fixed fine amount per device found used in gambling” and that it doesn’t matter whether “the de..

Buenos Aires stops issuing licences citing ‘alarming frequency’ of underage gambling

The Executive of Buenos Aires will no longer issue online gaming licences in a bid to tackle gambling addiction amongst minors.

Announced yesterday by Jorge Macri, Chief of Government of Buenos Aires, the city is officially closing the registry of gambling licences, announcing a immediate “review of the 11 in force”. A fundamental part of this is said to consist of the “process of age verification of gamblers in the sites’ registry”.

Whilst the sector remained at the centre of public discussion due to various advancing measures against its marketing and advertising, numerous legislators have finally presented proposals to limit it, arguing that there has been an increase in pathological gambling among under 18s.

The head of the Argentine capital decided to take measures through the Lottery of the City of Buenos Aires (LOTBA), the regulatory body which launched BA’s online gambling regime in 2020.

LOTBA has now closed the call for applications to grant online gambling licences, but ..
