Dutch regulator issues collaboration or litigation warning to Google

The Dutch gambling authority is hopeful that its collaboration with big tech firm Google to create a ‘whitelist’ of all legal providers in the European Union will help to turn off a major tap when it comes to the presence of illegal operators, according to Kansspelautoriteit’s (KSA) Chair Michel Groothuizen.

However, Groothuizen made it clear in a blog post that if collaboration is ineffective or insufficient, the legal route ‘naturally remains open’ and this can be done simultaneously since the end goal remains the same – improving player protection.

Like many gambling regulators globally in their respective countries, the KSA has been very vocal about the black market and its presence in the Netherlands, calling on search engines and social media platforms to do more to combat their illegal and unlicensed offerings, either amicably or by force if necessary.

Pressure has been placed on platforms such as Google and Meta to do more to help. Recent comments from Groothuizen, alongside..
