The Lotteries and Gaming Board has mapped out plans for a centralised modern technological control aimed at providing heightened oversight against any black market activity while ensuring responsible gambling practices.
Chairperson of the board, Dr Eugenia Chidhakwa, noted that 2025 marked a transitional period as the board sought to inculcate governance systems in tune with the national legislation, and ultimately strengthened the institution.
Last year, Zimbabwe made notable changes to fiscal policies governing the sector, with gambling rates increasing from 3% to 20% while taxes paid by players on winnings rose from 10% to 25%.
The measures were lauded by the board’s CEO, Godfrey Mutobaya, as he cited that they led to an upsurge in generated revenues, a total of ZWG 47.97m ($1.8m) during the past year.
