Sweeping Colorado sports betting bill approved on deadline day

The Colorado sports betting market could undergo a major overhaul if a bill passed Wednesday by the state legislature receives approval from Gov. Jared Polis.

The state Senate agreed to minor amendments approved earlier this week by the House, then narrowly backed the measure, 20-15, to clear it on the final scheduled day of the 2026 legislative session. Polis now has 30 days to decide whether to sign the bill, veto it or allow it to become law without his signature.

If enacted, SB 131 would put in place sweeping player protection measures. Those include a ban on credit card deposits and daily limits on how frequently a bettor can fund their online wagering account.

While creating stronger safeguards for most players, the CO sports betting bill also would score a major victory for professional bettors by preventing sportsbooks from limiting an account, with the exceptions of suspicious activity and responsible gambling concerns.

Legislators initially attempted to outlaw player prop..

New York takes aim at prediction markets with ‘risky bet’ campaign

The New York State Gaming Commission (NYSGC) has launched a new campaign to educate residents and visitors about the risks associated with unlawful gambling.

On Friday, the NYSGC launched its Unlawful Gambling = Risky Bets initiative, providing bettors in the Empire State with the knowledge and tools to identify unlicensed gambling platforms and protect themselves from the dangers of unlawful wagering.

The NYSGC takes direct aim at online casinos, sweepstakes casinos and prediction markets by declaring them unlawful gambling options in New York. The regulator wants New Yorkers to bypass accessing the unlicensed platforms as they fail to deliver the same consumer protections standards and procedures as required by licensed operators in the state.

In some cases, the unlicensed platforms also facilitate wagering by people under the age of 21—a violation of New York gaming rules. The illicit platforms also provide users with access to house rules and market catalogs that have not receiv..

It monitors over $300bn in sports betting turnover for retail and online wagering per year.

Ohio regulator proposes rule change to ban credit cards for gambling

The Ohio Casino Control Commission (OCCC) proposed an amendment to state gaming rules to change how residents fund their player accounts for online sports wagering.

Earlier this week, the OCCC submitted a rule change proposal to “remove credit cards as a funding option for deposit-enabled accounts” for sports gaming. The proposed rule change amends Ohio Adm.Code 3775-16-03, a provision concerning sports gaming accounts.

The proposed rule change would only allow sportsbook accounts to be funded using:

Promotional credits

Winnings

ACH transfers

Wire transfers

Corrections made by sports gaming providers with notifications sent to bettors

The state also allows funding by “any other means approved by the executive director”.

Ohio’s rulemaking process

The OCCC is allowing key stakeholders in gaming to weigh in on the proposed rule change. The regulator welcomes written comments, which must be submitted by May 15.

“While you will have some additional chances to comment on these rul..

How NBA path on prediction markets differs from US leagues

The NBA’s public comment to the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) regarding prediction markets paints a stark contrast to other pro leagues.

The CFTC published a notice in March inviting the public, corporations, and leagues to comment on whether to amend or issue new regulations governing event contracts.

The agency set an April 30 deadline for public comment submissions, with some of the largest stakeholders in gaming and sports sending letters to the CFTC on prediction markets. In total, the CFTC received over 1,500 public comments regarding the platforms.

While some leagues are already in partnerships with prediction markets operators, the NBA sent a letter to the CFTC doubling down on its concerns regarding event contracts.

“There is no higher priority for the NBA than protecting the integrity of our games and preserving public confidence in our league and in our sport,” said Dan Spillane, NBA Executive Vice President and Assistant General Counsel, League Governance ..
